The duties of the Airworthiness Department are carried out within the organization of 4 coordination offices. These are as follows;

• Airworthiness Coordination Office
• Maintenance Coordination Office (145)
• Maintenance Personnel Licensing and Training Coordination Office (66/147)
• Certification Coordination Office (21)

To regulate the principles and requirements for the permits, licenses and any other authorizations granted to the natural and legal persons, intending to engage in aviation activities in relation to maintenance, repair, design, manufacturing and airworthiness, in compliance with the international standards, and to grant the required permits, and to audit the activities of such operators, and to renew, suspend or cancel, if and when so required, the authorities of such operators, and to keep the records of the practices carried out for such purposes;
To set the airworthiness standards in relation to the aircraft, and the airframes, engines, propellers, electrical components and installations, electronic equipment, systems and parts of aircraft as well as any other equipment used in any aircraft, in compliance with the international regulations, and to issue, inspect, renew, cancel and record the required documentation and certificates accordingly;
To set the airworthiness and noise standards to enable the airframes, engines, propellers and any other equipment of aircraft, manufactured in our country, to be used at any civil aircraft, and to authorize the operators/companies, carrying out the activities for design, manufacturing, maintenance, repair, modification and recovery in compliance with the standards specified, to issue and approve the relevant documents, to renew the authorities, to cancel the same, if and when so required, and to keep the records of the same;
To promulgate the regulations based on the license and certificate processes, requiring certificate of competence in respect of maintenance, repair, design and manufacturing in the field of civil aviation, and to issue, approve, renew, cancel, if and when so required, the documents, and to keep records accordingly;
To set the standards of the trainings, requiring the certificate of competence, and which are needed to be received by the personnel, to authorize the training organizations training such personnel, to inspect the compliance of the practices with the international standards, to cancel the same, if and when so required, and to keep records accordingly;
To validate certificate of airworthiness, which has been issued or validated by any country or international organization, being a member to the International Civil Aviation Organization, provided that the requirements for issuance or validation of such certificates are above the standards of the International Civil Aviation Organization or equivalent thereto;

To inspect that whether any aircraft registered in our country is airworthy in compliance with the specified regulations, or not, and to suspend or cancel the airworthiness certificates in case of any failure in ensuring compliance;
To determine the procedures and principles in relation to obtainment of certificate by the personnel to obtain certificate of competence regarding the matters falling under the scope of the field of her/his duties, and to ensure conduct of the same;

To determine the training principles of the organizations, which train the personnel to obtain the certificate of competence regarding the matters falling under the scope of the field of her/his duties, to license and inspect the same, and to keep records accordingly;

To determine the organizations, which will be authorized to carry out the theoretical and practical exams or to have the same carried out in respect of granting the certificate of competence regarding the matters falling under the scope of the field of her/his duties and responsibilities as well as of renewing the same, and to inspect the compliance thereof;

To carry out and to fulfill any such other duties to be assigned by the Director General.
