The Heart of Global Aviation beats in Istanbul at the ICAO Symposium

The 2022 ICAO GISS -Global Aviation Application and Support Symposium organized by ICAO in Turkey opened its doors with the participation of more than 1000 participants from 140 countries and high-level representatives of global aviation organizations.

Hosted by the General Directorate of Civil Aviation of the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, the Symposium held in Istanbul from 28 June to 1 July 2022 will showcase the latest trends and trends as well as best practices to support a safe, secure, sustainable and efficient future for global air transport. brought together world aviation to exchange information and views on innovations.

The Opening Ceremony of the Symposium, which started with the dance performance of the Fire of Anatolia, was held with the participation of ICAO directors as well as senior representatives of global aviation authorities such as EASA, Eurocontrol, IATA, ACI, civil aviation authorities of member countries and sector representatives.

Making the first speech of the opening ceremony, General Director of Civil Aviation Prof. Dr. Kemal YÜKSEK expressed their satisfaction with hosting the meeting of global aviation in Istanbul and noted that Turkey has made great progress in line with ICAO's goal that no country will be left behind and that our country is ready to share its experiences with other countries.

General Manager Dr. Kemal YÜKSEK in his speech; Expressing that a system in which the concepts of Digitalization, Big Data, Intelligent Decision Making and Artificial Intelligence are used at the highest level will accelerate the world civil aviation, he shared his New Civil Aviation approach with the participants:

“The New Civil Aviation System consists of three main elements. First, Institutional Transformation Model; It provides the civil aviation organizational structure that countries need. Second, Aviation Information Management System; automation is an automation that ensures that all civil aviation functions of countries are carried out, and it contains big data and smart decision systems. The third is Smart and Useful Aviation Services; It offers solutions to the important needs of aviation.”

General Manager Dr. Kemal YÜKSEK stated that the New Civil Aviation Approach he mentioned will be a system that fully coincides with ICAO's capacity building and development goal, and that he will assume the role of natural supporter of ICAO in developing the capacity of other countries with this model.

During the three-day Symposium, previously organized events such as the Aviation Forum (IWAF), the Global Aviation Cooperation Symposium (GACS) and the Global Aviation Education/TRAINAIR PLUS Symposium will be held together. Within the scope of the symposium, panels and workshops will be organized with the participation of 50 senior speakers in 9 different sessions.

In the first session held after the Opening Ceremony, "ICAO Implementation Support Programs: Improvement in Aviation", and in the second session in the afternoon, "Sourcing of Implementation Support: Sourcing-Financing and Cooperation with Partner States and Multilateral Organizations" were discussed.

Also on the first day, implementation support agreements for capacity building projects were signed between the UK, Qatar and Angola. During the symposium, ICAO, other international aviation organizations and member countries are expected to hold bilateral meetings and sign similar implementation support agreements.

Within the scope of the symposium, a technical trip will be organized to the Turkish Civil Aviation Academy in the coming days, and information will be given about the Institutional Transformation Model and Digital Education Systems of DGCA.
