Any commercial air operators, which have a seating capacity of twenty and over, and which carry out and perform transportation of passengers or only cargo by means of any aircraft registered in the Republic of Turkey, are designated as Airline Companies. Currently, there are 12 Airline Companies registered by our Directorate General on scheduled and non-scheduled basis in our country. 3 of such airlines carry out and perform transportation of only cargo while 1 of them engage in regional transportation activities.

Any operators, which have a seating capacity of maximum nineteen, and which carry out and perform commercial air transportation activities by means of any aircraft registered in the Republic of Turkey, are designated as Air Taxi Operators. Currently, there are 51 Air Taxi operators in our country.

Any operators, which carry out and perform transportation of passengers and cargo not falling under the scope of commercial air transportation, as well as any operators which perform and carry out any operations and training activities at a pre-determined airspace for a pre-determined purpose regardless of the fact that such operations and activities are performed in consideration of a fee, are designated as General Aviation Operators.

Any operators carrying out and performing aviation activities by means of balloon in Turkish Airspace. It is mandatory for any kind of operators to perform commercial air transportation by means of balloons to be authorized by our Directorate General.

In Cappadocia, where balloon flights are operated intensively, our Directorate General has an agency within the organization of Cappadocia Vocational High School in Mustafapasa, Urgup, with the purpose of ensuring that balloon flights are operated safely.
